Windlight Settings Download

Download it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/106325676/_2ACanimod.xml.html

Hey All!

Well if you had a chance to experience windlight before it was made the default client you'll know that windlight makes you ugly! That's the first impression anyway the lighting makes your avatar look bad. Then after a while, you find settings that make you look good. Well here's one I made you can download it FREE & use it to see yourself & others look good & take pics & so on.

Download it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/106325676/_2ACanimod.xml.html

- How to install?
Copy the downloaded file & paste it into the following directory:
C:\Program Files\SecondLife\app_settings\windlight\skies

- How to use?
Open Second Life & choose the following:
World > Environment settings > Environment Editor > Advanced Sky
& Choose the "*canimod" from the pull down menu next to the words "sky presents:".

- What if I want people without the settings to see me look good?
Well for that you have to get a facelight. There are some free of charge out there I'm also gunna make one free.. I guess windlight is going to be a facelight kind of world. Let's all thank linden labs once again for thinking an idea through before implementing it.

"windlight makes you ugly!" LOL
Well it is not April 1st. I guess you are an artist and I like the Canimal products but SL is a 3D world with somewhat realistic lighting, not Photoshop.
This is now much more realistic lighting than with the older viewers default bright ambient light setting. Well the choice is yours and with the settings and face lights it is everyone's choice to choose.
But be prepared to wear a face light in RL because in the dark everyone's face is dark.

Sila,
every photographer knows that you should never take a pic at someone with RL non light... With WindLight we seem to always have noon light which leaves weird shadows in the faces of the avatars.

I've pretty much stopped using facelights altogether. They seem to be either barely noticable at all or they make my face light up like a blinding white hot nuclear reactor. I think pretty soon, these elaborate 5 and 6 light settups will become the new bling once people realize how they look to everyone else

I've stopped using them for the most part and just rely on my custom WL settings.

I don't like having a ball in front of my face either but windlight casts shadows all over you that make textures look bad (I think ana said it best) & I'd rather see my av look good than care about my new friend, the invisible floating ball.. ;)

Realistic or not wasn't really the issue it was just that a lot of people (I know I did, as did my friends) get windlight & didn't like what it does to your avatar. So I gave my best solution so people can enjoy their canimal products looking as best they could.

My facelight and studio lights were making me look like I was about to explode, I glowed that much!

I hated WL without a face light to start with, but with ppl (like you canniiii <3 and ana! <3) helping me out with settings i've found a few good settings for pictures, in various atmospheric conditions.

I do have a facelight that works with WL and doesn't making me look like a glowtard also, which I use, but overall I don't think WL and facelights/studio lights are gunna mesh that much at all.

I hated WL to start with, because it DID leave hideous shadows EVERYWHERE, but YAY for settings to share! <3

Do note that only 6 lights + sun/moon + ambient can be active at the same time based on proximity. Every personnal light that is turned on eats up one. This is not a limitation of SL but of the OpenGL rendering API used for 3D applications in order to keep rendering sufficiently fast.

This means that personnal lights basically ruins the environment light and affect all avatars with range. Imagine if everyone had one.

It's a rather selfish "I don't care if everything else looks bad as long as I look good" solution.

In contrast, Windlight is a great addition. The problem is that textures calibrated under one lighting don't necessarily look good in another. in the name of freedom, LL has not provided a "forced" solution based on location. It's neither bad or good, it's a choice.

OMG windlight totally makes people look like shit. Are you blind naysayers? Canimal is right about it. The main setting that makes people look like trash is the atmospheric shaders. Turn that off and half the problem is gone. Seriously windlight compared to other games, REAL games by pro developers, not these linden fags, looks much better. Windlight is the stupidest thing since qarl lindens poor implementation of sculpted prims.

Well these are all points to consider. but again, i'm not the biggest facelight fan either but I got asked the questions in the post by customers & its info me & my friends found useful so I suggest it to my customers. At no point do I mean to say: hey, everyone on the grid must immediately implement these things, & if it comes off that way then it wasn't intentional. It's just a windlight faq. If the solution is selfish then now people will know to make the choice between being selfish & having their av light up I guess. Might as well make an informed decision.

This post isn't meant as anti windlight if that's what this is about. I don't get where all the negativity is coming from I didn't invent any of these solutions they came from a lot of players who felt a need for them.

I don't understand why this is being taken so personally. A lot of people are unhappy with the default light set and the way it reacts with avatars. One of the best features of windlight is that anyone has the ability to create any lighting scheme they see fit. I think designers offering their own for customers to download will become the new standard in the interest of WYSIWYG. In fact, Canimal is not the first to do this. Did anyone have a fit when Caliah Lyon posted her set for avatar optimization? Or cry over Iris Ophelia's very helpful guide on NWN?

If you're happy with the default lighting, then by all means use it, but don't expect that everyone else is too.

And if this is less about Windlight and more about the phrase "makes you ugly". I suggest working on your humor radar.
